Eye Makeup Removers

One of my favorite things to do is try a variety of products and then compare them to each other to pick my favorite.  I'm that girl that actually buys the products from the road tests that Real Simple magazine does.  The last review of products I posted was mascaras I've tried, and someone asked if I would post about eye makeup removers.  I haven't tried a ton, but I do have some favorites.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser
check Aveeno for stores
I love Aveeno products because they always smell so good!
This cleanser did not remove a trace of my eye makeup, though;
I ended up using it just like a facial cleanser.  Thumbs down
on the makeup removing part.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
$6.49 at Target
I found myself having to use a LOT of this to get
all the traces of my mascara off.  Also, it says it's
oil-free but I found it actually left an oily
residue around my eyes.  Definitely not a favorite.

Yes to Carrots Makeup Removing Cleanser
$9.99 at Target
This does a good job of taking all of the
eye makeup off, but it takes a little scrubbing
in order to do so.  I use this when I'm not in a hurry,
and I like it because it's paraben-free.

Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
$15.00 at Mary Kay
This is my favorite liquid eye makeup remover.
I don't have to put a lot on a cotton ball, and it takes
off even waterproof mascara.  It's not oily
and because I feel like it lasts a long time,
I think it's worth the money.

Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes
$4.49 at Target
These are hands-down my favorite of all.
They are gentler than a cotton ball, and they
remove every bit of makeup.  If I'm in a hurry
this is definitely what I grab, and I also
like being able to have them in
my purse or carry-on if I am traveling.

I've also tried the Target brand eye makeup remover and hated it; I felt like I was using half the bottle just to get my mascara to come off.  I don't think they sell that anymore because now it's the up&up brand.  Has anyone tried that?

What makeup removers do you use?  I would love to know what you recommend!

  1. I was totally going to suggest Mary Kay's eye makeup remover! I started using that in September last year, and I started selling it in January this year, and that is probably my favorite product *ever*. It takes off everything and doesn't smell one bit or leave an oily feeling..so good!! I'll have to look into the Neutrogena cloths, tho, because I do like having things for a quick fix.

  2. Dude those little towelettes are perfect for traveling.

  3. I also use the MK remover. I have been using it since June 2003....yep I remember the date because I'm weird like that. I like that it is so easy to use and I don't have to wipe hard to remove anything and promote crow's feet. I love that it is even safe for contact lenses!

  4. I love that Neutrogena one! But most of the time I just use mark.'s Makeup Wipes. Surprisingly they get all my makeup off. & I wear a lot of eyemakeup! lol

  5. It's kind of expensive, but I think the Clinique eye make-up remover can't be beat. There are two kinds, one in a blue bottle and one in a purple bottle -- I like both, but the purple one is slightly oily. They often put one or the other in their gift bags that they give away twice a year(?) with a purchase.

  6. I think I'm the only girl on the planet that doesn't use this stuff. I get in the shower and wash my makeup off with a warm rag. I also move the rag around back and forth under my top lashes to get the mascara off...which does well without pulling the lashes out. Then I use a face cleanser and rinse. If there is any remaining mascara raccoon eyes when I dry off I apply a bit of lotion where the stain is and wipe away with a tissue. Voila!

  7. I have used the neutrogena oil free residue and I agree it leaves a residue!

  8. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I have to use hypoallergenic face wash and make up remover. With that said, I have been using the same Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser for the last 5 years. I love the tingly sensation, and since I don't wear alot of heavy eye make-up, it really get the job done. Plus, I wear contacts and this product doesn't irritate my eyes if I wash my face with my contacts in :) When I do my singing competitions, and I apply heavy make-up, I usually use the Equate brand facial cleansing towelettes first and then follow up with my Biore cleanser just to make sure my face is good and clean. I'm the type of girl that washes her face twice a day EVERY day no matter what :)

  9. I have tried the neutrogena and I hate thay oily residue! UGGH! I like clinique! But right now I am using First Aid from Sehopra and its rocks! I'll be doing a post on it soon!

  10. i use lancome because it came with a gift set, but i've also used aveda in the past, which i've really liked. i need to get some of those neutrogena towels!

  11. I have yet to try any of these as makeup removers but I should because mine always leaves tons on if I wear a smokey eye or any eyeliner at all! I have a big bottle of Ulta's eye makeup remover so don't add it to your list!

  12. i am so bad about taking off my eye makeup! i really should invest in some. thanks for the options!

  13. Great round up ... what a necessity :) Those towelettes look super convenient :)

  14. I totally agree with you on the towelettes; I've been using them for years and I think they beat expensive department store brands. :)

  15. Wow--this is a great roundup of cleansers!. Sadly, I don't use any, but I am heading to target soon so I see cleansing towelettes in my near future!

  16. I love a lot of your picks! I also like the Clinique eye make up remover so mascara that just wont come off with regular face wash!

  17. I'm loyal to Almay Eye Makeup Remover pads.

  18. I have heard WONDERS about the Neutrogena towelettes! I don't actually use individual removers though. There is a brand called Fancl that removes all make up just by washing your face, including water-proof mascara, eyeliner, and the works. Pretty cool stuff!

  19. I use the CVS brand of the Neutrogena one. I RARELY wear makeup (I think Saturday was the first time for me in a month), so I don't need anything fancy, just something to get the job done :)

    Happy Tuesday, Sherri!

  20. I used to use the Neutrogena remover too and it DID leave an oily feel- yuck!

  21. thank you! think I'll try the yes to carrots brand.

  22. I like the towelettes, but it seems like kind of a waste. I agree with the knock off brands... they definitely don't work as well.

  23. I love the Mary Kay makeup remover! It definitely works well!

  24. I use the Nutregena removers! Love them. Right now I have the up&up brand from target but they work fine. The little bottle of eye makeup remover from up&up however irritated my eyes and didn't even work! But the wipes do:)

  25. thank you so much for sharing these reviews!!! i've used the Neutrogena wipes and really did a great job! right now i'm using the Garnier Oil Free wipes and are my favorite by far :)

  26. thanks for the details! i use the neutrogena one, but i think i need to test out some others.

  27. Great list you made here! Thanks for the references! I actually use the Target brand and it's just fine for me since I don't wear too much eye makeup. I agree that it doesn't take it off 100% but I like it and it's super cheap. I also like the Clinque one, but it's a little expensive for me. If I'm desperate and run out, I use a mild lotion. It actually works just fine.

  28. Here's what I do: take one part baby shampoo, one part water a bit of baby oil and pour into a clean empty bottle. When ready to use, shake mixture and remove makeup with a cotton ball. This is the best remover I've ever tried (and trust me, I've tried quite a few). It's gentle, safe, cheap for the eye area and doesn't require much effort. I love it and I don't think I will ever go back to using anything else!

  29. I use the Avon eye make up remover and it's really good. You don't have to scrub much to get that clean feeling.

I recently try the Yes to Carrots On-The-Go Facial Towelettes and those are really good as well. I love towelettes, but they are more expensive than a scrub.

    Glad you are enjoying pinterest!

  30. I use Lancome eye makeup remover, but it tends to leave my skin feeling a bit greasy. You sold me on the Neutrogena cleaning clothes - I totally want to try them now!

  31. so i was sooo picky with eye makeup removers because i HATE oil! i used to use Ahava, but had problems getting it after they changed the packaging! so now i use the body shop's and im in loveeee with it. it feels like water!

  32. I love the cloths too. It's the only thing I use to remove makeup and it takes everything off. I love this post!

  36. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave
it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell
to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
